Heat is the #1 enemy of laptop and computers!

With summer temperatures in full swing, some of us will go on vacation and will likely bring our computers with us.

To keep your computer running as long as possible, here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • If you plan to take your laptop outdoors, we recommend having shade nearby as heat from the sun can cause damage to your device’s battery.
  • Internal heat from your device can damage components if left unchecked.
  • Keeping your device’s vents clear of dust and other obstructions will help keep your device cool.
  • Shutting down your computer before putting it inside a laptop bag will ensure that your computer doesn’t randomly turn on when asleep while unplugged.
  • Unplugging your laptop from the AC power source when fully charged and adjusting your power settings accordingly will allow you to maximize your device’s battery.
  • If your laptop shuts off unexpectedly during the warmest part of the day – it may need to be serviced by our techs.
  • If you observe your laptop swelling (lid not closing correctly, etc.) it could be the result of a swollen battery. This is a potentially dangerous situation and requires a technician to address it quickly.
  • Do not leave the laptop permanently plugged in: If you have a habit of leaving your laptop or PC permanently connected to the power supply in order to keep the battery charge at 100 percent, you should reconsider this, at least during the summer months. Charging the battery generates heat, even if the battery is already full.
